My participation in the 1992 Christopher Columbus tall ships race

My name is Paul Nixon. I wish to share a story I have written about my participation in the 1992 Christopher Columbus tall ships race from Boston to Liverpool England. I sailed aboard an English ship called the Soren Larsen, a replica 19th Century Brigantine.
Racing against 86 other tall ships from around the world , the month long crossing  provided all of the sea faring experiences one could expect from a bygone era. Prince Philip of England came aboard in Boston to give us a successful send of. We were also the last ship to leave Boston harbor and were met by the return of Old Ironside having led the parade of sail out into open water. As she passed us she ran out her guns and gave us a broadside, Ironic too this being an English ship.
Within a few days of heavy fog we were caught in a serious storm which brought about some major concern. Our successful skipper used the storm to pull us further out into the Atlantic giving us a good lead. A month later off the coast of Ireland after having had such a rare sailing experience. As I was the only Irishman aboard. I was called from my bunk in the early morning hours to be given the honor of taking the helm and take the Soren to victory.
